    Before I go to bed, I hydrate, drink a big glass of water. If I’ll be getting up in six hours or less (work? school? Eek!) I also take a couple Motrin before I go to bed.

    This doesn’t eliminate the hangover, but it lessens it.

    Of course, I did eventually learn/decide to spread my alcohol intake over an entire evening, not getting drunk but staying softly lit from within for hours. Much less hangover to deal with that way.

    First, grab your knee pads (this part is key, you’ll thank me later) strap them on, an find a young suitable, attractive, morbidly obese woman, and tell her to walk into your face. Now, with the knee pads still attached, find yourself some gigantic black chon, and just go to town.

    Or, drink water and take some advil, but it’s not nearly as effective as option 1

    Before you go to bed, drink a lot of water and eat something. What I’ve found most affective to eat, is bread or cake or something that will soak up the alcohol. However, if you’ve drank too much to eat then don’t try or you’ll get sick.

    Next morning, re-hydrate. Drink as much as you can, without feeling sick. Preferably water, sometimes coffee does the trick as well. Don’t drink or eat anything acidic for a while (orange juice..) or eat anything too greasy (I have found a full English breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon etc REALLY doesn’t help).

    And, if all this fails, take an aspirin or two ;-)

    As part of our diet and nutrition classes in the nursing program, we read and discussed alcohol. Very interesting info. So for the past 30 yrs. I’ve told people that when we drink alcohol there are a lot of chemical reactions in our bodies. Alcohol gets in our blood stream, filtered by our liver and metabolizes on sugar. It also interferes with our ADH (anti diuretic hormone) which keeps us from eliminating all of the fluid in our bodies and so we don’t get dehydrated. So with alcohol stopping the ADH, we go to the toilet a lot when we drink alcohol. (most people think they go a lot because they’re drinking a lot).

    So when we go out to drink alcohol or stay at home, drink water right along with the alcohol and you will stay hydrated. If you pass-out or go to sleep without drinking water, the alcohol keeps circulating in our blood stream. When we wake up and feel like death warmed over…we try to drink anything….soda, milk, juice, etc. and what happens is after we drink liquids in the morning after, the alcohol starts to metabolize again and truly you can get drunk all over again!

    The big thing to remember is to drink as much water as you drink alcohol if not more so.

    what works for me is the obvious drink 1 pint of water when you get in then when you get up 2 pain killers 1 cup of strong sweet coffee then if you don’t have the ingredients for a english breakfast ie sausage bacon tomatoes baked beans fried eggs fried bread mushrooms 2 choices go and buy the ingredients or the one i prefer to do is find a nice greasy spoon (cafe) and order the biggest they have got eat it then back home back to sleep for 2 hours then you will be feeling slightly better.

    Food of some kind, lots of water, and 3 ibuprofen pills before falling asleep (or passing out).

    When waking up, 3 more ibuprofen, and tomato soup. Something about the acidity of tomatoes really helps.

    When you have a really wicked hangover, here’s what you do;
    first, sleep as long as possible, when you do get up, get some food and water into your system, along with some aspirin (but not before some food, or it’s tough on the stomach), and maybe some tums and/or pepto. A shower and a #2 and tooth brushing always helps a little too. If after all that, you still feel so bad you can hardly stand, go to a gym/spa and get a massage and/or sit in a hot tub or sauna. I prefer to get in a hot tub for a bit first, followed by a nice massage, and drink lots of cold water. Then, as soon as that starts to make you feel all better, have a glass of champagne, and a nap or to bed early the next night…

    Water and 3 aspirins and about another hour of sleep. One other thing…..just take another drink. it will level you out. Of course, when you get a hangover it is a indicator that the amount of alcohol you consumed is too much for your body. It can also come from red wine. I hear that a McDonalds double cheeseburger works too. Good Luck.

    Hangovers are caused by congerens in different alcohols, dehydration, and the lack of B vitamins when you wake up since your body uses them all. The best things to do is take a Vitamin B tablet before you begin your drinking, and also in the morning. Also drink ALOT of water and you can take aspirin BUT NOT TYLENOL it kills your liver since it has acetominophen.

    There are some really great cures and info on what alcohols give less severe hangovers at : http://www.medilogy.net/health/hangover-101/
